Chaucer's works, especially The Knight’s Tale in The Canterbury Tales and Troilus and Criseyde, were the sources for Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Troilus & Cressida, and The Two Noble Kinsmen. (See Ann Thompson, Shakespeare’s Chaucer: A Study in Literary Origins [Liverpool University Press, 1978]).
